Example

We really like that quote from that old bald dude from India.
What is it?  ‘ Be the trouble you wish to see in the world’?

Here are the steps we take in our own business to try to lead by example every day:

At the Warehouse:

  • 100% green energy, from a 100% Australian owned company.
  • Ethical Superannuation Fund.
  • Make all purchasing decisions based on distance from our location (to reduce carbon impact in transport) as well as ethics of the business selling the product.
  • Energy and water efficient washing machine.
  • Car share when necessary otherwise use PT, bike or foot.
  • When refueling cars we use E10 and other biofuels whenever possible.
  • Purchase foods from local farmers at markets as much as possible.
  • Use timber scraps from recycled timber yard as firewood.
  • Carbon offsetting.
  • Dramatic reduction of meat and dairy in diet.  What meat we do buy now is kangaroo whenever possible as it has a much lower environmental impact.
  • Composting with worm farm to reduce landfill.
  • Small waste bin / large recycle bin to encourage less landfill.
  • Purchase of equipment, furniture, clothes, etc second hand to reduce manufacturing.
  • Putting unwanted items on sites like freecycle.org to reduce landfill.
  • Try to encourage local economy whenever possible.
  • Turn lights and electrical equipment off at the source (powerboards with switches on each point are great for this).
  • No incandescent light bulbs.
  • Minimise dryer usage as much as possible (only in wet clothes emergency).
  • Recycle grey water for plants and washing cars.
  • Use water filter instead of bottled water.
  • Enviro friendly home and personal cleaning products.
  • Purchase organic wherever possible to encourage less chemical use in agriculture.
  • Reduce interstate flights as much as possible.
  • Use of fans instead of air-conditioning.
  • Electronic communication whenever possible, or double sided printing when necessary.
  • Use of recycled paper products.
  • Use of recycled plastic pens (often made from old video games consoles).
  • No plastic bags when grocery shopping.

On Set:

  • Rent production equipment instead of purchasing whenever possible.
  • Brief crew with environment policy.
  • Reusable plates / cups / mugs.
  • Recycle bins.
  • Car pooling.

Future Actions:

  • 100% Green broadband internet.
  • Green web hosting.
  • Purchase diesel vehicle and retrofit with vegetable oil conversion and dual fuel LPG.
  • Replace more appliances with energy efficient models.
  • Further improve water saving in bathrooms and kitchen.
  • Change from carbon offsetting to Tree Cred conservation reserve credits.
  • Apply for NABERS green star assessment.
